Grades 7-8
The student will be able to:
- Know the basic arrangement and outlay of the media center and utilize its resources.
- Improve reading comprehension skills through active participation in recreational and informational reading.
- Use the online card catalog to locate books and other local resources.
- Demonstrate knowledge of media center procedures and policies.
- Understand, locate, and identify the various types of literature (fiction, non-fiction, and biography).
- Continue to develop skills in using various features of reference materials (table of contents, index, and bibliography).
- Improve skills in utilizing reference materials (encyclopedias, thesauruses, dictionaries,
- Internet, and electronic databases).
- Understand the importance of reading as a life-long learner.
Grades 9-12
The student will be able to:
- Understand the value of libraries, literature, and books.
- Participate in recreational and informational reading.
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate a variety of information sources.
- Demonstrate the ability to search a variety of electronic databases.
- Develop advanced searching skills including the use of Boolean Operators.
- Identify the appropriate information sources for the specific research need.
- Improve skills in utilizing reference materials (encyclopedias, thesauruses, dictionaries,
- Internet, and electronic databases).
- Incorporate various technologies (digital camera, scanner, and camcorder) into research projects.
- Solve problems by information gathering and synthesizing data.
- Understand the importance of reading as a life-long learner.
