HEALTH EDUCATION 7-12

Grades 7 & 8

The student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the structure, function, and care of the body systems.
  2. Identify causes and effects of emotions and stress and the impact they have on behavior.
  3. Identify the needs and concerns of a healthy community and various health organizations.
  4. Understand the role proper nutrition plays in being fit and having a healthy lifestyle.
  5. Analyze relationships and social roles.
  6. Demonstrate and understand influences of personal health practices.
  7. Explain the cause and effect of chemical substances and the impact on the individual, family, and community.
  8. Identify safety risks, precautionary measures, and treatment for handling personal injuries.
  9. Understand the causes, prevention, and treatment of diseases and disorders.

Grade 10: Health Education

The student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of concepts and terminology as it relates to human growth and development.
  2. Describe measures to prevent, control, and treat both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  3. Understand and identify terminology as it relates to structure and human body systems.
  4. Understand the relationship between physical, mental, emotional, and social health as it relates to living.
  5. Develop basic CPR skills.
  6. Understand the need, importance of, and proper protocol of organ donation.
  7. Acquire the knowledge to make good safety decisions.
  8. Evaluate the personal health risks of the use, misuse, and abuse of chemical substances.
  9. Understand the relationship between proper nutrition and exercise.

Grade 10: Advanced Health Education

The student will be able to:
  1. Increase anatomical terminology.
  2. Increase knowledge of the body's strengths, weaknesses, and limitations.
  3. Apply knowledge to the techniques of athletic training and community first aid.
  4. Demonstrate proper techniques in athletic taping skills.
  5. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the body systems.
  6. Identify different health career opportunities.
  7. Earn CPR certification (or re-certification).

Grade 10: Current Health Issues

The student will be able to:
  1. Analyze how accidents that are caused by human error can be prevented.
  2. Identify environmental factors that present safety risks.
  3. Demonstrate accepted skills in accident prevention, emergency care, and lifesaving techniques.
  4. Earn CPR and Safety and First Aid certification.
  5. Develop a first aid kit for personal use.
