Grades 7 & 8
The student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the structure, function, and care of the body systems.
- Identify causes and effects of emotions and stress and the impact they have on behavior.
- Identify the needs and concerns of a healthy community and various health organizations.
- Understand the role proper nutrition plays in being fit and having a healthy lifestyle.
- Analyze relationships and social roles.
- Demonstrate and understand influences of personal health practices.
- Explain the cause and effect of chemical substances and the impact on the individual, family, and community.
- Identify safety risks, precautionary measures, and treatment for handling personal injuries.
- Understand the causes, prevention, and treatment of diseases and disorders.
Grade 10: Health Education
The student will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of concepts and terminology as it relates to human growth and development.
- Describe measures to prevent, control, and treat both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
- Understand and identify terminology as it relates to structure and human body systems.
- Understand the relationship between physical, mental, emotional, and social health as it relates to living.
- Develop basic CPR skills.
- Understand the need, importance of, and proper protocol of organ donation.
- Acquire the knowledge to make good safety decisions.
- Evaluate the personal health risks of the use, misuse, and abuse of chemical substances.
- Understand the relationship between proper nutrition and exercise.
Grade 10: Advanced Health Education
The student will be able to:
- Increase anatomical terminology.
- Increase knowledge of the body's strengths, weaknesses, and limitations.
- Apply knowledge to the techniques of athletic training and community first aid.
- Demonstrate proper techniques in athletic taping skills.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the body systems.
- Identify different health career opportunities.
- Earn CPR certification (or re-certification).
Grade 10: Current Health Issues
The student will be able to:
- Analyze how accidents that are caused by human error can be prevented.
- Identify environmental factors that present safety risks.
- Demonstrate accepted skills in accident prevention, emergency care, and lifesaving techniques.
- Earn CPR and Safety and First Aid certification.
- Develop a first aid kit for personal use.
