FOREIGN LANGUAGE

French I

The student will be able to:
  1. Learn the various reasons for studying French.
  2. Listen, participate in, and understand brief guided conversation related to basic needs in French.
  3. Read aloud and comprehend main ideas and facts taken from familiar passages and simple texts in French.
  4. Write simple guided texts on familiar topics.
  5. Recognize the inter-relatedness of languages, literature, and cultures through knowledge of the artifacts, expressions, and traditions of French.
  6. Demonstrate behaviors appropriate in French-speaking cultures.

French II

The student will be able to:
  1. Understand and appreciate other cultures by comparing social behaviors and values of people from around the world.
  2. Participate, respond, and interact in a variety of situations to meet personal needs.
  3. Read aloud and comprehend main ideas and facts taken from familiar passages and more complex texts with increased emphasis on intonation and correct pronunciation.
  4. Write short dialogues and narratives in French.
  5. Identify major geographical features, historical events, and political structures of the foreign countries in which French is spoken.

French III/IV

The student will be able to:
  1. Participate in classroom and extra-curricular activities related to French.
  2. Participate, respond, and interact in a variety of more complex situations to meet personal needs.
  3. Give short presentations on French cultural topics.
  4. Read for comprehension from a variety of authentic materials.
  5. Use the language creatively in various forms of written expression.
  6. Continue to be familiar with major geographical features, historical events, and political structures of the foreign countries in which French is spoken.
  7. Demonstrate enhanced behaviors appropriate in French cultures in a variety of situations.

Spanish I

The student will be able to:
  1. Learn the various reasons for studying Spanish.
  2. Listen, participate in, and understand brief guided conversations related to basic needs in Spanish.
  3. Read aloud and comprehend main ideas and facts taken from familiar passages and simple texts in Spanish.
