PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Grades K-2

The student will be able to:
  1. Understand and distinguish between general and personal spaces.
  2. Travel though space at different levels using different speeds and directions.
  3. Perform basic balance and stability skills (crabwalk and stork stand).
  4. Perform basic loco-motor movements (skipping, galloping and hopping).
  5. Perform creative movements to music and movement exploration.
  6. Perform basic manipulative skills (throwing, catching, and rolling).
  7. Participate and perform in activities that involve the physical fitness components of strength, flexibility, and endurance.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of safety and how to follow rules.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of proper usage and care of equipment.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of simple game rules.

Grades 3 & 4

The student will be able to:
  1. Perform simple manipulative and loco-motor skills that are related to basic sports and lead-up activities.
  2. Work together with the people of different abilities in different movement activities.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to follow safety and game rules.
  4. Understand activities that lead toward an active life-style.
  5. Understand how physical education relates to other subject areas.
  6. Understand and demonstrate care and proper use of equipment.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of basic rules for lead-up games.
  8. Learn and perform simple dance and rhythmic skills.

Grades 5 & 6

The student will be able to:
  1. Follow safety rules.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of basic sport rules by participating in modified games.
  3. Refine manipulative rhythmic and loco-motor skills as they apply to sports.
  4. Demonstrate sportsmanship and positive self-concept while cooperating with others.
  5. Perform at an adequate level of physical fitness.
  6. Improve skill level through self-testing.
  7. Understand and demonstrate proper care and use of equipment.
  8. Understand the relationship between Physical Education and other subject areas.
  9. Demonstrate fundamental motor skills in individual and sport activities.
  10. Earn the Presidential Physical Fitness Award.
