Kindergarten

Reading and Language Arts

The student will be able to:
  1. Develop skills in auditory and visual discrimination.
  2. Develop an appreciation and love of literature.
  3. Draw, dictate and write regularly in journals and class projects.
  4. Listen and follow oral directions.
  5. Communicate and respond to literature through a variety of ways.
  6. Listen and participate in meaningful oral and visual sharing.
  7. Recognize that printed symbols (letters and words) represent the sounds of spoken language.

Math

The student will be able to:
  1. Communicate an understanding of mathematics by using objects, numbers, and shapes.
  2. Develop reasoning skills by using sets of objects, numbers, and shapes to identify, duplicate, and create patterns.
  3. Recognize and develop mathematical connections in children's literature.
  4. Introduce the concepts of addition and subtraction.
  5. Count, compare, classify, estimate, and write the numeral for the number of items in a set with ten elements or less.
  6. Construct and interpret real graphs.
  7. Count, describe, classify, compare, and draw basic geometric objects (square, circle, rectangle, and triangle).

Science

The student will be able to:
  1. Classify, identify, and describe using the five senses.
  2. Use simple instruments to compare size, weight, temperature, direction and/or location.
  3. Identify, describe, and predict changes in the environment.
  4. Observe and participate in simple experiments.
  5. Construct and interpret graphs.

Social Studies

The student will be able to:
  1. State their name, phone number and address.
  2. Explain how basic needs of food, shelter and clothing are met.
  3. Understand the roll of community helpers.
  4. Practice citizenship skills and responsibilities (classroom rules).
  5. Observe and discuss diversity.

Health

The student will be able to:
  1. Identify themselves as unique individuals.
  2. Demonstrate daily health habits that promote growth (hygiene, nutrition, and exercise).
  3. Identify and name major external body parts.
  4. Identify and describe substances that are helpful or harmful to our bodies.
  5. Identify safety risks in the home and school and participate in safety drills.

Computers

The student will be able to:
  1. Recognize basic computer terms (monitor, keyboard and mouse).
  2. Manipulate mouse by using right/left hand.
  3. Utilize mouse to point and click on software programs.
  4. Recognize CD-ROM and be able to open it.
  5. Properly hold disk and insert into computer.
