ELEMENTARY RESOURCE

Reading

The student will be able to:
  1. Learn basic Dolch word list.
  2. Decode new words using a variety of strategies.
  3. Comprehend material read both orally and silently.
  4. Read appropriate level books for information and enjoyment.
  5. Identify the main idea of materials read.
  6. Sequence/order events of materials read.

Spelling

The student will be able to:
  1. Spell short and long vowel combination words from an appropriate list.
  2. Spell special vowel patterns and high frequency words.
  3. Apply skills learned in daily work activities.

English

The student will be able to:
  1. Recognize parts of speech and how to form sentences.
  2. Correctly use capitalization and punctuation skills.
  3. Recognize and write complete sentences.
  4. Write notes, letters, paragraphs, and stories for communication.
  5. Apply basic dictionary skills.
  6. Identify four basic types of sentences.

Writing

The student will be able to:
  1. Legibly form letters and words in both manuscript and cursive writing.
  2. Use correct size and spacing of letters and words in both manuscript and cursive writing.

Math

The student will be able to:
  1. Recognize place values to one thousand (primary) and one million (intermediate).
  2. Recognize, count, and write ordinal numbers to one thousand (primary) and one million (intermediate).
  3. Figure out answers to basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.
  4. Use regrouping skills appropriate for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems.
  5. Figure out what operation to use in one or two-step story problems.
  6. Recognize money and its value to $1.00, count and make change to $5.00.
  7. Tell time to hours and minutes, and tell specific times before or after a given time. Recognize standard and metric measurements.
  8. Skip/count numbers by 2's, 3's, 5's, 10's, and 25's to an appropriate length. Recognize and identify basic shapes.
  9. Learn about fractions (primary) and learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions (intermediate).
