Providing Tools for Future Success!

From the Superintendent,

Let's Make It a Great Year!

As we begin the 2007-2008 school year, we see the evidence of many changes at Frankton-Lapel Community Schools. However, one thing remains the same - the quality of education we offer to the young people of our community - from pre-schoolers just starting out to seniors beginning the final year in a secondary school and already looking toward their futures.

It has been said that change does not necessarily assure progress, but progress requires change. Our school corporation is dedicated to progressing beyond the expectations of the past to ensure that the educational tools necessary to succeed in the future are available to each student. The new Lapel High School is just one example of how facilities support our commitment.

As we strive to meet and exceed individual school improvement goals and state standards, programs also support our commitment to each student. Frankton-Lapel will continue to make reading and writing a priority at every level.

Who hasn't heard it said that 'reading is fundamental'? Reading is the foundation upon which education is built. If a child cannot read, he or she cannot excel. It's no secret that students who love to read most often have parents who love to read. Make sure your child reads at home and has someone to actively listen to him/her read.

Parent and community commitment to education supports the life of the schools. I encourage parents to become actively involved at school by attending special programs, sporting events, and especially parent-teacher conferences. Your presence clearly says to your child that you care about education, and it provides opportunities for you to get to know the administrators and teachers who are with your child on a daily basis.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated teaching and support staff, as well as a school board committed to making the right decisions to ensure that our young people are afforded the best educational opportunities available. The commitment of these adults to the future leaders of this area, this state and the world, makes me proud to be part of this school corporation, this team, and this community of educators.

Welcome back. Let's make it a great year for Frankton-Lapel Community Schools!
